What is Resilience?

Resilience is used to describe the ability of materials to return to their original state after a change. If an elastic band is stretched, for example, it can shrink back down again.

When it comes to people, however, we are not fully unchanged when we face challenges, but we can still remain strong.

The video below explains resilience from the perspective of a young child.

This second video is technically about grit (which is resilience + persistence) but can be helpful in your understanding of its importance and application to our lives.

While definitions of resilience can vary slightly, we can most likely all agree that it's something we'd like to be able to have. It's something that both young and old need. Thanks for learning together with us!
